Summary of Role
Serve as a subject matter expert on firm practice management issues and how they relate to different firm sizes.  Develop and maintain knowledge of firm practice management and technical competencies such as auditing and attestation (A&A), write-up, tax, consulting and specialties. Interact with committees and contribute to the execution of PCPS strategic initiatives. Interact with members and represent and develop Private Company Practice Section (PCPS) member benefits, tools and resources. Monitor the profession, members’ top concerns and lead in solution and opportunity identification for PCPS members. 

About Our Team:

The AICPA’s Private Companies Practice Section (PCPS) supports CPA firms in the everyday intricacies of running a practice. PCPS partners with firms of all sizes, creating targeted and customizable practice management resources, networking opportunities and is a strong, collective voice within the CPA profession. The PCPS team represents various areas of expertise, including firm ownership, technical, developmental, and administrative roles, from public accounting firms of all sizes. The team draws on a long history of experience inside the AICPA and among various state societies and is committed to serve the PCPS membership.

 

 
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
  • Develop and/or review targeted content and tools for PCPS members.
  • Review marketing and member messaging to ensure consistency and alignment with value propositions for various firm sizes.
  • Serve as staff liaison for committees and task forces, including meeting planning and facilitation, minutes and action item management, coordination of activities and ensuring committee and task force satisfaction.  
  • Continue to build upon the relationships currently developed and partner with key influencers and constituencies to meet member needs and promote PCPS tools.
  • Collaborate with applicable internal Association teams to meet objectives and to drive PCPS membership.
  • Provide consistent, timely member service, including responses to external member inquiries. Also provide guidance and responses to internal inquiries (e.g. practice management questions, product development, advocacy issues, etc.).
  • Keep current on developments in the accounting profession both nationally and on a global scale; monitor and stay abreast of hot topics and emerging issues in the profession and what it means for different firm sizes. 
  • Represent Association and PCPS at conferences by exhibiting PCPS materials, interacting with conference attendees and explaining the value of PCPS membership.
  • Maintain and submit updates to keep webpages current, as necessary.
  • Execute firm services initiatives as directed.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate in a way that is easily understood.
  • General knowledge of firm practice management and issues by firm size
  • Knowledge of accounting discipline subject matter and the typical CPA/client relationship
  • Knowledge of unique attributes of different firm size segments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Customer service orientation
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Ability to cultivate business relationships, partnerships and alliances internally and externally
  • Ability to leverage relationships to gather market intelligence and maintain organizational relevancy
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to travel on a frequent basis
 

Required Experience, Qualifications & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ related experience in a CPA or professional services firm or a Firm Administrator with five years’ experience working at a CPA firm
  • Relevant experience at the Association is taken into consideration as an alternative to work in a professional services firm
 
Preferred Experience, Qualifications & Education
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Active in Association and/or State Society and/or CPAFMA
