Summary of Role
Develop and help manage public relations efforts to positively position the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, American Institute of CPAs and CPA profession in a wide variety of media platforms.  Assignment focus is media and public relations related to all areas of accounting and finance the AICPA and the NC market. 
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
  • Work with internal Association teams to prepare press releases, pitches, talking points and other media relations documents as needed to secure coverage for AICPA priorities.

  • Work with domestic and international communications counterparts at all levels to ensure aligned and integrated (blended) communications effort that positively reflect on the AICPA and the CPA profession.
  • Work with AICPA leadership and CPA volunteer leaders on media and other exposure platforms in North Carolina and nationally.
  • Serve as an on-site Media Relations representative in the Durham office and develop and manage local public relations opportunities for AICPA.
  • Develop and manage relationships across the Association in Durham and serve as one of two on-  site Media Relations and Communications team liaisons with key AICPA groups.
  • Monitor and manage annual media relations strategic plan reporting on key milestones and metrics
  • Work with Media Relations and Communications team colleagues across the Association in an  integrated, cohesive team environment
  • Work with Senior Manager of PR in developing innovative ways to drive positive publicity building on  and going beyond the traditional techniques of media relations.  
    Stay abreast of best practices in publicity digital trends and monitoring software.
  • Manage monthly Association press release chart – including soliciting input from US and international PR colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Proven track record of earned media placements
  • Understanding of the news cycle and how reporters and editors think
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to listen to others and confirm understanding of the content and underlying message.
  • Superior writing and presentation skills, including ability to draft press releases, pitches, blog posts and talking points.
  • Ability to use data points to create compelling media narratives.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience scanning multiple media channels for PR opportunities.
  • Ability to understand relevant trends within the profession.
  • Ability to identify and cultivate business relationships, partnerships and alliances internally and externally.
  • Proficient in creating Media/PR plans. Ability to break tasks down into manageable and measurable components in order to achieve project goals.
  • Excellent knowledge of best practices and considerations for communicating in the public arena at all levels, from the local  to global
  • Proficient with social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube

Required Experience, Qualifications & Education

  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in media relations in either an agency or corporate setting.  Comparable journalism experience may be substituted.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
Preferred Experience, Qualifications & Education
  • Knowledge of accounting, business and finance
  • Financial or business-related reporter contacts, in NC and nationally
  • Familiar with PR software and services, including Cision, Factiva, Business Wire and others
  • Experience developing surveys and thought leadership to generate proactive media coverage
