Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Proven track record of earned media placements
  • Understanding of the news cycle and how reporters and editors think
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to listen to others and confirm understanding of the content and underlying message.
  • Superior writing and presentation skills, including ability to draft press releases, pitches, blog posts and talking points.
  • Ability to use data points to create compelling media narratives.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience scanning multiple media channels for PR opportunities.
  • Ability to understand relevant trends within the profession.
  • Ability to identify and cultivate business relationships, partnerships and alliances internally and externally.
  • Proficient in creating Media/PR plans. Ability to break tasks down into manageable and measurable components in order to achieve project goals.
  • Excellent knowledge of best practices and considerations for communicating in the public arena at all levels, from the local  to global
  • Proficient with social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube
 

Required Experience, Qualifications & Education

  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in media relations in either an agency or corporate setting.  Comparable journalism experience may be substituted.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
Preferred Experience, Qualifications & Education
  • Knowledge of accounting, business and finance
  • Financial or business-related reporter contacts, in NC and nationally
  • Familiar with PR software and services, including Cision, Factiva, Business Wire and others
  • Experience developing surveys and thought leadership to generate proactive media coverage
