Senior Manager - State Advocacy

About the Role:

You will have a critical role in implementing strategic advocacy programs to protect and promote the interests of the accounting profession at the state level. You will monitor state legislative and regulatory developments, engaging with state societies, and important partners, including state legislators, regulatory agencies, and industry coalitions.

You will be an individual contributor and government affairs professional who can navigate complex legislative and regulatory landscapes. You will report to the Director - State Advocacy and use a hybrid work schedule from our offices in Washington DC.

You Will:

  • Assess state legislative and regulatory proposals affecting the CPA profession.
  • Develop advocacy strategies to address legislative and regulatory challenges with state CPA societies.
  • Prepare policy position papers, testimony, comment letters, and briefings for state legislatures, regulatory agencies, and partners.
  • Work with external partners, such as coalitions, business associations, and professional groups, to promote shared advocacy goals.
  • Be the primary liaison between AICPA and state CPA societies, providing them with policy guidance, advocacy tools, and legislative strategy support.
  • Maintain relationships with state society leadership, legislative committees, and professional policy groups.
  • Provide training and resources to state societies on advocacy best practices, legislative engagement, and grassroots mobilization.
  • Organize and participate in legislative fly-ins, advocacy days, and regional/state meetings.
  • Lead the development of advocacy campaigns and messaging to influence state policymakers.
  • Collaborate with AICPA communications and public affairs teams to develop advocacy-related content for newsletters, social media, and legislative alerts.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and dashboards summarizing important legislative trends and advocacy outcomes for AICPA leadership and partners.
  • Identify and assess latest policy trends that could affect the profession in the future.

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, law, business, or a related field
  • 12+ years of experience in state government affairs, advocacy, legislative/regulatory analysis, or public policy
  • Knowledge of state legislative and regulatory processes and experience working with lawmakers, agencies, and business associations.

The Annual Salary Range for this role is:  $125,000 - $175,000 per annum. There is no non-wage compensation.
